So it all started when I didn’t know what life was all about and one day my uncle asked what my purpose was. I was dumbfounded, I didn’t have a clue. I don’t like when I don’t have answers to questions and that made me think for a whole week. I just kept praying for God to reveal my purpose to me and I had no clue how He would do that.

Around the age of 18, I began to ask myself questions; Who am I? Where am I from? Why am I here? What can I do? Where am I going? At the time I seemingly answered these questions based on things that came from my head but for some reason when I read it over, I was in tears. At that moment I did not know my purpose.

A few weeks passed and I was having a heart to heart conversation with a friend over a personal issue. For some unexplainable reason, this conversation reaffirmed my purpose based on what I wrote down. Since that day, people have told me that I am born for this.
I feel it’s all about a personal conviction, asking questions and then it will become clear to you and you work towards it.

Your life is not your own. God made you and didn’t  just make you to fill or occupy space. You were made for a purpose to fulfill destiny.

seedI believe this is the first thing we all need to understand because it’s the foundation of living a meaningful life. We are all created with gifts and our gift is like a seed that needs to grow. No seed has a future until it’s planted we need to identify that to be able to live a meaningful life.

Focusing on ourselves will never reveal our life’s purpose. It is God who directs the lives of his creatures, everyone’s life is in his power. It is only in God that we discover our meaning and our purpose. Every other path leads to a dead end. Being successful and living a life of purpose are not the same thing. If you don’t understand your purpose, you will try different things to become successful and even when you are successful, you are not happy or content. Except the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it…(Psalm 127:1)

Yes our ultimate purpose is to do God’s will which is overcome challenges, preach the good news and so on but God gives you spiritual gifts, hearts/passions, abilities, a personality and experiences (SHAPE) that make you unique and when you take time to figure out how God has shaped you, it gives you direction of where you should go with your life.

Matthew 25:14 talks about the talents God has given us and we are to make use of our talents. You are born for a reason and a purpose and we are valuable. Make it your responsibility to identify your purpose so that you can grow and live a meaningful life

  • Do you know what those gifts are?
  • What are you passionate about?
  • What can you do better than other people?
  • What would you choose to do if there were no obstacles?

If the pupa said it won’t leave it’s cocoon, it would never have been a butterfly. You are a butterfly, valuable and beautiful. They’ve talked down on you and said you cannot amount to anything but that doesn’t diminish your value because your value is on the inside of you and cannot be taken from you.

Your purpose is like a seed inside you and this seed cannot grow unless you identify that there is a seed inside you and nurture it by taking action/risks, surrounding yourself with positive people and praying.

So my advice to anyone still trying to discover their purpose is pray about it, and just ask yourself questions to be honest. And be more conscious of the things around you and the things you do.

Its not an easy question to answer and you have to be open to the fact that you have a purpose. When you find your own unique answer to the question of why you’re here, you will feel it resonate with you deeply. The words will seem to have a special energy to you, and you will feel that energy whenever you read them. Discovering your purpose is the easy part. The hard part is keeping it with you on a daily basis and working on yourself to the point where you become that purpose. Purpose allows you to make a difference in life. What is your heart song and follow your heart.

  4. This is very true….being successful and living a life of purpose are not the same. God created everyone for a purpose on earth and our duty is to find that purpose and fufill it before we join him. By doing this I believe we have accomplished our mission on Earth. May God help us in finding our purpose in life.
