Wow! The year is almost over !! It went by so fast and at the same time lots of milestones and achievements made. Happy New Month to all of my amazing readers! As you’ve taken conscious effort to grow and excel in all you do, I pray God meets you where you are and His grace multiplies your rewards.
This month, the spotlight is on a young and inspiring lady who has achieved a lot within the span of a year. In a year, she has had 5 speaking engagements, 2 conferences and a book launch!!
How did she do it? Well, let’s hear from her.
Our spotlight for the month is…..
To begin, what are five things about you, you would like people to know?
- I am the founder of savespendinvest.co.uk – a platform to help millennials get better with their personal finance (@savespendinvest)
- I love travelling! Solo trips are one of the best things I enjoy
- I am a big believer of making the word of God come alive by you walking and living in your purpose and being a living testimony
- Current obsessions include home reno videos, home decor and fintech
- I am a walking Zara mannequin
What does it mean to live a life that is meaningful?
For me, this means to live life intentionally. From going to school, or being at work, your everyday actions and decisions should be intentional about your bigger purpose.
What sparked your interest for finance? Did you go through any experience that you would like to share and lessons learnt?
I think I’ve always been interested in things to do with money, lol. I used to like playing with and counting money growing up – everyone thought I was going to end up being a banker. But it wasn’t till I started earning an income in uni, and realizing little money mistakes I was making, I realized I needed to get right with money ASAP. I read Rich Dad Poor Dad at university, and that changed everything for me. I started sharing my journey on improving my personal finance in 2017 and people resonated with that. Having read lots of books about purpose, I put 1 + 1 together and realized I had a passion for helping people figure out every money question they had. Or as I say, ‘money is a universal language that everyone needs to learn how to speak. I am here to help you learn how to.’
Who or what inspired your book “The ABCs of Personal Finance” and what are the key takeaways from it.
Honestly, it was supposed to be just this little e-book, as a one stop shop for all things personal finance. But God had much bigger plans for it, and it was the first time I realized that Save Spend Invest is really His mission and I am only a channel. The main takeaways from it are: Build good money habits – from how you deal with impulsive shopping to how you deal with emergencies, your personal finance habits shape how you deal with money. You should be monetizing your skills to increase your earning potential. Get rid of all your debt and save more.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years or hope to have accomplished by then?
Five years! Seems so close, yet so far away. In a year I’ll be a qualified accountant, so hopefully my earning potential increases with that. The main reason that’ll be helpful for me, is having more to invest in myself and into Save Spend Invest. The ultimate goal is to get personal finance into the education system and I have a few ways to start doing that. I want to have published a more comprehensive book on personal finance, written a course for universities, have an online webinar to teach people how to earn more using their existing and new skills, do book and university tours and do a lot more speaking events, host seminars and conferences. Hopefully, I’d have bought my first property or/and some rental ones too, be on my way to being fully self-employed with a high performance team, and maybe married, who knows. Ha!
Is there anything about life that tugs your heart, or any controversial topic that you would love to shed more light on?
Social media. I think it can be a blessing and a curse, and a lot of the time people tend to focus (too much) on the negatives, not realizing how it can be used for so many things. One of the things I have come to appreciate about it, is how people can become whatever they say they are. I can wake up and decide I want to be a motivational speaker, change my bio, post some videos and off I go! It’s a money making machine, and it’s one of the easiest ways to share your passion with the world. It also breeds community and openness, and although there are cons with that, I think for me, I’ve learnt what I put in, is what I get out of it, and I have the power to change it to make it work for me and for my growing business.
What’s the greatest advice that you’ve ever received?
Ask for what you want, and don’t be afraid to go and get it. If there’s no seat at the table for you, pull up your own chair.
What’s one thing that you would love to do that you’ve not done?
This OR That?
